Slice of Life Challenge: Chapter 19 (Israel 4)

No matter how many walks we take on the beach, how many plates of hummus and pita we savor, how much we love being here, the world reality is inescapable. The economy, the war, the coming election are always with us.

And with You Tube,I could catch up on last night’s installment of American Idol and Barak Obama’s important speech on the issue of race(”A More Perfect Union”) and I have to move away from Hillary.

I watched him, I listened to him and I believe his conviction. He speaks with his head and his heart. Can we say the same about Hillary? I’m afraid I can’t. I watch her calculating before she makes a decision.

I don’t think we can really trust any politician. What do we really know? Look at the Spitzer mess? It’s not so much his indiscretion, but the false advertising. “I am going to clean up Albany.” But there is a mess to clean up in our country. Maybe the biggest mess in my lifetime and I would give someone who is bright and strong and authentic a shot. For sure we haven’t done very well with 8 years of Bushwacker. So I am ready for a breath of fresh air and as we listened to Obama take on an issue no one wants to deal with, he is a symbol of what’s best about America and his voice reminds us what still needs to be done

As for Tuvia? He had a hard time yesterday, but the sun and the sea a lunch together and even Barack’s speech kept him open.

Today begins the celebration of Purim with parades and costumes and children.

What debts will be left for them to pay?

Most delectable, gorgeous hummus I ever ate was in Haifa just before visiting Jerusalem for Holy Week (this same week) nine years ago. Thanks for refreshing that memory! Your thoughts about our democratic candidates are also intriguing. I am wrestling so much with what I want from politicians. By nature of the work, they have to make compromises. I can deal with much of that. I just hope they aren’t moral compromises.

Trust in politicians — boy, that is a tough thing.
In the end, we have to go with our emotional response to a person and their message, which is why we always get so disappointed with the people we vote for (I think).

Yeah, the trusting politicians thing is just never easy. I want to believe there was a time when it was easy, but I’m not sure. The speech was great, made being home sick (so I could listen to it live) a little less annoying. I am not even close to being an “Obamaniac,” but listening to him is pretty hope-inspiring.
